Illegal logging is the harvesting of timber in contravention of the laws and regulations of the country of harvest. Illegal logging is a global problem with significant negative economic, environmental and social impact.

In October 2010, the EU adopted a new timber regulation to combat trade in illegally harvested timber to help protect our environment. This makes it illegal to place illegally harvested timber products on the European marketplace. All operators supplying timber or timber products must provide a due diligence system of operation which includes storing information regarding the supplier, buyer and product for a minimum of five years. All Whiteriver Group timber products are completely compliant with these regulations.

We are committed to sourcing all our wood products from well managed and sustainable sources. Our company has achieved both FSC® and PEFC Chain of Custody certification. The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) aims to promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world’s forests. Read more about FSC® – ww.fsc.org. The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) through independent third-party certification. We also employ quality controllers who visit our hardwood flooring factories to ensure the product is being produced correctly and to ensure that the sourcing of raw materials is correct. Our quality controllers provide a very important link in maintaining high standards. They also visit our factories producers to ensure all environmental standards are maintained.

Our aim for the future is to maintain the highest quality standards and to increase the number of products that we sell that are certified with proven chain of custody.
